Born and raised in Marion, Iowa, Andrea Marg-Costopoulos got sent to the principal's office in kindergarten for coloring on her table. Thus began a love of colors and patterns that over the years have inspired her formal and informal study in art including ceramics, painting, fiber, jewelry and multimedia projects. As a young adult she was an RN at the Mayo Clinic, so medical images are incorporated into her work on occasion. Since becoming a mother of two daughters in the late 1980's, she has focused her spare time on artistic pursuits at the Indianapolis Art Center, Herron School of Art at IUPUI and the Rochester Community and Technical College's Art Department.
Andrea returned to Rochester, Minnesota from Indianapolis with her family in 1998 and has been deeply involved in the arts community since then. Between 2009 and 2011 she served as the President of the SEMVA Board and the SEMAC Board of Directors, giving each organization 10 years of volunteer service. She is currently in her second year as the President of the Rochester Arts Council Board and she has been Co-Director of the ARTigras Art Festival since it began in 2009. She has also been an art consultant to Olmsted Medical Center, Samaritan Bethany Senior Care Community, the Ronald McDonald House and Madonna Towers Living Community in Rochester in the last five years. Each of these organizations have bought considerable amounts of artwork for their public spaces from SE Minnesota artists.
