Mercedes Johnson

Mercedes' primary mediums are light, pixels and ink. She is a photographer, but also a printer. Mercedes graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a BA in Graphic Technologies and then - because college is so cheap - she also received her technical degree from the Hawkeye Professional Photographer Program in both portrait and commercial photography. After graduating in May 2017, Mercedes decided to leave Iowa behind and move to Minnesota. Because snow… and her wife works at Mother Mayo. She is currently working as a professional photographer in the MN and IA area as well as working toward her Masters of Photography degree from the Professional Photographers of America Organization.

Professional photography is her career, but it’s also her creative outlet. Mercedes photographs weddings on the weekends and anything else under the moon during the week. Mostly portraits like kiddos, families, pets, and artists. On her off time, she likes to create fine art pieces. Color, composition, light, and story are key in my work. She doesn’t think a photograph is real until it is printed, and without coffee, what is life?
